Slinger/Signaller

Format: 3 days

Certification: FAS CSCS logbook/ticket and FETAC certificate

 

Objective

To ensure that all participants are trauined in the correct use of appropriate signals when working with high rise cranes and other such machinery, in keeping with health and safety regulations.


Background

The job of a slinger/signaller requires skill and concentration as they play a vital role in the lifting team. They must know and understand both the regulatory requirements of their job and the operational requirements of the lifting operation. And they must be trained an competent in all aspects of their work.

 

The duties of a slinger/signaller include:

Carrying out visual pre-use checks of the lifting accessories
Attaching the load to the crane correctly and in accordance with the lifting plan
Giving the appropriate signals to the crane operator for the lifting, transferring and positing of loads in a safe manner
Detaching the load from the crane
Ensuring that the lifting accessories are stored correctly and reporting any defects

Course Includes:

Theory

Current Legislation
Pre Shift Inspection
Hazards Associated

 

Practical

Attach lifting gear to a varied loads
Balanced load, & Unbalanced load
Bale of concrete blocks
Bale of tubes or rods
Attach and use of tag ropes to control a load
Recognise and use of approved hand signals.

 

On the 3rd day of the course participants are given a log book. After 6 months further experience under the supervision of a CSCS ticket holder of the same category, they must pass a 1 day assessment to achieve CSCS card and FETAC Certification

 

Participants must bring the following on the day of training:

1. Passport Photo

2. Current Safe Pass is Advisable

3. Personal Protective Equipment

4. Evidence or Proof of experience (Over six months) i.e. Letter from employer

 

Participants must be aged 18 years or over
