Language/Work Placement Preparation

This is critical to the success of the programme for the trainee.

They need at least a week to get used to being in a foreign country and culture. This week also allows them to familiarise themselves with Irish culture and language before they tackle their work placement.

The work practices and expectations of employers and host companies are different and these will be explained during this week to trainees.

Accent, idiom and the use of English will also be different from their school or college.

English spoken in Ireland differs from standard British lexis and the trainee will be made aware of this.

On arrival, the trainee's fluency is tested, and the course is tailored to their level. There is also further assessment at the end for evaluation purposes. If trainees or senders want it they can be assessed for an internationally accredited test by the University of London. This test is at an additional cost.

During their language training trainees learn:

• Grammar and syntax

• Conversation skills through role play and debate

• Communication skills though video feedback

• Professional and technical vocabulary

• Interview skills, professional presentation
